(AC21) Meeting: September 13-14, 2004 Sixth Plenary Meeting September 13-14, 2004 Wyndham Washington Hotel Washington, DC Draft Meeting Summary On September 13-14, 2004, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) convened the sixth plenary meeting of the Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21). The meeting objectives included: Reviewing a revised draft introduction to the report examining the impacts of agricultural biotechnology on American agriculture and USDA over the next five to ten years; Reviewing . . . . . . provisional final draft of the report for circulation to the Committee for their review and comments prior to the December meeting. Meeting Dates The specific dates for the next plenary session are December 9 and 10, 2004. IX. Summary of Sixth Plenary Session Dr. Layton thanked Committee members for their hard work over the two-day meeting and encouraged members to continue to work quickly and concisely in the upcoming weeks. Intent of Report Organization of Report Key Definitions Used in the Report Comments on the current draft text included revising or deleting the last paragraph of the Introduction regarding the scope of the report. Members noted that the draft chapters description of modern biotechnology appears that to include manipulation of RNA, but the report does not discuss this issue, nor, to any great extent, genomics.
